Food Drive for my Niece & Nephew! & Freebies!

It's that time of year when everyone is doing things for others. And I guess you are never to young to start. My niece and nephew are doing a food drive at school for those less fortunate ones. The secretary of the school collects the food over a 2 week period and then puts together boxes for families in the school. However this year they made it a competition!!

They had 2 rewards, so the 2 classes with the most food items would get a Root Beer Float party! (oh, the little things that make kids happy)

Well, I got a call and was asked (more like roped in) to bring my coupon knowledge and teach the two of them ( 7&9 Year olds ) how to get the most bang for their buck! My sister gave them each $10 to spend... so I went straight to work, planning and clipping!!

Here is what we got. The total spent was $17.97 (Wal-Mart did not take off the right coupons, so it cost $2 more than it was supposed to) Each class got the same items. I believe it was a total of 75 each! Not too shabby for just under $20!!! That's about $0.12 per item!! AND FORMULA!!

And here is a picture of the freebies I got in the mail this week by following the following 2 blogs!! I love free, and especially a whole roll of scotch blue painters tape!! SCORE!!

Dining Area Wall Treatment!!!

I have officially jumped on the blog wagon! I stayed home sick from work yesterday, and while I was laying on the couch watching the Today show, I had this vision in my mind! I was staring at my wall with my barn stars that I LOVE!! And knew it had to change. When my husband came home from lunch I told him what I wanted (I may have batted an eye or two) and to my suprise he jumped right on it. Ok well first he tried to tell me it would be a 3 day process and I wouldn't have the instant gratification that I love so much.

Here is where we started:

Step #1: Install the top rail! (the right side will eventually meet up with my fireplace mantle and surround)

Step #2: Install boxes made from 1" trim (we did this step twice when we realized our floor was not level and we had measured off the floor... ALWAYS use a level, it will save you in the long run)

Step #3: Prime all of the area that you are going to paint!!

And here is the final product! (sorry about the lighting... it was still dark out this morning when I took the pics!)

I am so in LUUUUVVEEE with this look! It has put a whole new feel on the room!

Thanks hubby!!
